Its true. Summer is steadily approaching us here in the city of brotherly love. The very humid, sweat while your sitting still, hard to be outside type of summer. The AC is now a necessity and so is some good deodorant. and well, the deodorant I have been using in the winter had me smelly by lunch time. That just wouldn't do.
I tend to go the natural route with body products. You know, the kind where I can actually read the ingredients? I had been fine using various natural deodorants and just dousing myself with lavender essential oil on top. But I finally had to admit, it just wasn't cutting it for me anymore. I had seen others before me make their own body products and even had some recipes but always thought that was a bit...extreme. Why make it when you can buy the same thing? and yet, here I am. making my own deodorant (this type of thinking seems to happen to me alot...).
But heres the deal, IT WORKS!!!
I have been through a few hot days, the hot sweaty kind, and I have been stink free. Truly. It was one of the easiest recipe's I have ever made. Even easier than a batch of muffins. It took me five minutes. Literally. Less time it would have taken me to go to the store and buy the deodorant that wasn't working anyway.
Here's the recipe. Its from the amazing Amy Karol. She posted it on her blog four years ago (okay, so I'm alittle slow on the homemade product scene). She is great. The recipe is free but I did buy her mail order recipe booklet and it has some great products in there like Vapor Rub, Hair Spray, Shampoo, Conditioner etc... you should buy it. Its totally worth it. For my deodorant I did Vanilla and Lavender Essential oil but you can use whatever scent you like. You can buy all the products you need at Mountain Rose Herbs or if your local, the lovely Herbiary.
Try it! You too can have a healthy, stink free summer!
